{"id":1439,"date":"2021-04-24T15:15:01","date_gmt":"2021-04-24T15:15:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/folksyblues.com\/?page_id=1439"},"modified":"2021-04-24T15:15:01","modified_gmt":"2021-04-24T15:15:01","slug":"rosa-lee-hill","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/folksyblues.com\/?page_id=1439","title":{"rendered":"Rosa Lee Hill"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Rosa Lee Hill<\/strong>\u00a0(September 25, 1910 \u2013 October 22, 1968) was an\u00a0American blues\u00a0musician.\u00a0She was born Rosa Lee Hemphill in\u00a0Como, Mississippi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hill played music that was in the tradition of north Mississippi, singing acoustic blues that made use of subtly varied repetition. Her song &#8221;Bullyin&#8217; Well&#8221;, which was recorded by\u00a0Alan Lomax, has been included on a number of releases over the years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The daughter of\u00a0Hill country blues\u00a0musician\u00a0Sid Hemphill, Rosa Lee learned guitar from her father and by the time she was ten, was playing dances with him.\u00a0Several of her songs were recorded by\u00a0Alan Lomax\u00a0in 1959, including &#8221;Rolled and Tumbled.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Her\u00a0album,\u00a0<em>Rosa Lee Hill and Friends<\/em>, was part of\u00a0Fat Possum&#8217;s campaign to reissue the recordings made by\u00a0George Mitchell.
