Asie Reed Payton<\/strong>\u00a0(April 12, 1937 \u2013 May 19, 1997)\u00a0was an\u00a0American<\/a>\u00a0blues<\/a>\u00a0musician<\/a>, who lived most of his life in\u00a0Holly Ridge,\u00a0Mississippi, in the\u00a0Mississippi Delta. Born in\u00a0Washington County, Mississippi, he sang and played the\u00a0guitar, but made his living as a\u00a0farmer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Near the end of his life he recorded one\u00a0album,\u00a0Worried<\/em>, for the\u00a0Fat Possum Records\u00a0label, which was released after his death. He died of a\u00a0heart attack.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He appeared and performed in the\u00a0documentary\u00a0film,\u00a0You See Me Laughin’: The Last of the Hill Country Bluesmen<\/em>. There is also a track by Payton on the\u00a0Big Bad Love<\/em>\u00a0soundtrack. Payton’s song, ”I Love You” from the album,\u00a0Worried<\/em>, was used in the closing credits of the 2002\u00a0film,\u00a0The Badge<\/em>. Several artists from Fat Possum were featured in the soundtrack, but it was not released.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He and his wife Mary are interred at Holly Ridge Cemetery, where\u00a0Charlie Patton\u00a0is also buried.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Asie Payton’s song\u00a0Back to the Bridge<\/em>\u00a0from his final album\u00a0Just Do Me Right<\/em>\u00a0(2002),\u00a0was featured on the compilation album\u00a0T<\/a>he Rough Guide to Delta Blues<\/em>\u00a0(2002).\u00a0\u00a0The song is also referenced in Jeri Smith-Ready’s novel\u00a0Bring On The Night (2010)<\/em>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
